Our Cornwall’s Dance for People Living with Parkinson’s sessions take place once a month in Falmouth, at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro and Bodmin.
These sessions are led by IGDC Co-Artistic Directors Jayne Devlin and Caroline Schanche and Dr Sophia Hulbert, a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Parkinson’s, a dancer and researcher.
Our partnership with the Hall for Cornwall gives us a wonderful opportunity to offer our specialist contemporary dance classes, informed by physiotherapy and research in an iconic Cornish venue.
“…it seems essential to hold these classes in an ‘arts-based venue’.
This is a space where almost anything goes. I feel safe, uplifted, encouraged.”
“I feel honoured that such a prestigious venue should be taking a supportive interest
in a section of the disabled public that is largely ignored.”

The popularity of the Hall for Cornwall sessions has enabled us to roll out our programme and provide additional sessions in both Falmouth and Bodmin.
Our approach to Dance for People Living with Parkinson’s is one of inclusivity. We want to build a thriving, effective and supportive community of people who come together to dance together.
Our sessions always start with coffee and a chat. This allows time for the participants to share their personal experiences and advice, creating an informal support network. Chatting together is when new friendships are made, and this is a really important element of the whole experience.
“It’s been good to meet other people with Parkinson’s. It feels vital to be able to do that and the whole atmosphere is very welcoming.”

We are very grateful for the support we have received from Hall for Cornwall, Parkinson’s Uk, Active Cornwall and Sport England.
